Yesterday at my aunt’s house, her husband was telling us about this discount rug they got at the local décor store. There were lots of cheap rugs on several counters. It was like a clearance sale or something. I was like, they are totally making a big deal about this and my mom was all, “that’s because these things can be pretty expensive”. Well yeah, unless these floor decors are typical mimics and second rate stuffs. Then my uncle told us about the amazing discount oriental rugs and now my parents are totally thinking of getting one. I made a mental note to tell them later that we don’t need it. Seriously, that discount rug on the floor was doing a good job on being the star of the night. I mean even if they’re cheap rugs and carpets are totally on the same league right?

Then as the grown up talks began after dinner, the topic was all about the “what and whatnots” in home decoration. So I made a mistake in assuming that carpets are all the same. I knew that the former was smaller in size but I didn’t know that the difference would stop there. Rugs are not fastened to the floor and generally are not as wide and big as the floor is. Carpets are installed floor décor and are usually fixed firmly on all sides. Apparently, the discount rug in my aunt’s house is making an impression to me. Basically rugs are floor coverings and spices up our haven. There maybe instances that we might feel like playing desert pilgrims and wonder what it feels like to lie on the intricately designed quality cheap rug you just bought. There is nothing wrong with that. Its like getting wild with the imagination or something. And maybe my parent’s thought of getting a discount rug wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

Going home from the capital, while the car was slowly speeding down in a remote town, I saw this hand made sign outside a house that says, “Rugs for sale”. I was like, those carpets better be nice or the sign just won’t do at all. So I assumed they were contemptible right but hey, it’s not like they’re selling kashan or momeni rugs or gabbah or just any custom rugs at all! The products may just be some hand made rugs that says “welcome” when you enter a house or some cleaning rugs for the car, I guess. Even if they were not, the owner should have thought of putting his business in some relatively civilized place not in the middle of nowhere where the travelers would rather save a stop over in a gas station that a meager house on the road. Besides, there are rugs for sale in almost any house specialty stores in the mall and I’m telling you, cheap rugs don’t even have their places there.

See most people don’t necessary go for typical rugs. They prefer carpets or in some cases, large rugs in ornamenting their house especially if the flooring isn’t all that nice. Even if there are Mark Todd or Tibetan rugs in their place, chances are these floor decors may just be at the study because there are probably more appealing features of the house to flaunt about. No it’s not all about being boastful or being show-off. Its kind of more of a necessity thing. For my part, even if the rugs for sale there flash at the nearest public screen, I wouldn’t really give a thought about it. So maybe just for a few seconds but later I’ll go back into wondering what dinner for tonight is. It’s more important than internalizing on the discount cheap rugs blaring at the television.

Prices may go down for these products even those tabriz or couristan rugs that are suppose to come from some exotic country. The designs maybe good and all the artsy praises anyone can think about. You regretted buying it a few days later because your 6 year old daughter keeps on taking it because she thought it would be a perfect match for her Barbie.
